[Giorgio Moroder]When I was fifteen, sixteenwhen I started really to play the guitarI definately wanted to become a musicianIt was almost impossible because the dream was so bigI didn’t see any chanceBecause I was living in a little townI was studyingAnd when I finally broke away from schoolAnd became a musician, I thought »well I may have a bit of a chance »Because all i every wanted to do is musicbut not only play music, but compose musicAt that time, in Germany, in 1969-70they already had discothequesSo I would take my car and go to a discothequeand sing maybe 30 minutesI think I had about 7-8 songsI would partially sleep in the carBecause i didn’t want to drive homeand that help me for about almost 2 years to surviveIn the beginning, I wanted to do a albumwith the sound of the 50s, the sound of the 60s, of the 70sand then have a sound of the futureAnd I said: « Wait a second?I know the synthesizerWhy don’t I use the synthesizerwhich is the sound of the future »And I didn’t have any idea what to dobut I knew I needed a clickSo we put a click on the 24 trackwhich was then synch to the moog modularI knew that it could be a sound of the futurebut I didn’t realise how much impact it would beMy name is Giovanni GiorgioBut everybody calls me GiorgioYou want to free your mindabout a concept of harmony and music being correctyou can do whatever you wantSo nobody told me what to doand there was no preconception of what to do
